Yours truly returns as DJ Innocent Camp Counselor at the third annual Doom Funk party at Nectar Lounge in Fremont Halloween night. High Pulp returns to the stage that night with a cauldron of groovy new material recently released and not-yet-unleashed spirits coming soon.
It's a night to move the undead, with the unstoppable Chilean-style cumbia beat of Cumbieros opening the evening and the intense boogie action of psych-pop groovers General Mojo's splitting the night's eerie musical action.
I'll be helping to judge a costume contest, along with spinning a selection of ghastly horror film scores and frightful funk and soul vinyl. Come dressed to impress, if you dare!
Happening in town while I'm away, the Earshot Jazz Festival welcomes Wax Thematic label founder and producer DJ Nathan Womack at the Timbre Room in Seattle Oct. 27. His internationally broad record collection meets guest MC Kassa Overall in his second festival performance after teaming with pianist Sullivan Fortner at the Langston Hughes Performing Arts Institute earlier that night.
An all-star Northwest modern fusion collective shares the stage at Timbre on the 27th. Members of High Pulp, The New Triumph, True Loves and multi-instrumentalist Alex Dugdale comprise the band sunking. They call themselves a "project without creative limit, moving beyond instrumental music." The group plans an album release with Seattle-based (Louisiana native) rapper Terrance Brown.
