Songwriters repurpose their work more often than you might think. Here are three incarnations of a beloved Antonio Carlos Jobim composition.
Instrumentally, the tune is known as "Double Rainbow." Guitarist Gene Bertoncini demonstrates the jazzy side of the piece.
At some point, "Double Rainbow" turned into "Children's Game," and inspired The Singers Unlimited to croon along, wordlessly, while pianist Oscar Peterson deftly experiments with the accompaniment.
Finally, the combination of poetic Brazilian lyrics and soothing, uplifting melody became "Chovendo na Roseira" (raining on the roses). Elis Regina brings her magic to the song.
