Sound Effect celebrates its 100th episode.

This week on Sound Effect, we celebrate our 100th episode by exploring the stories behind Northwest businesses with the address Suite 100.

Bottoms Up

Postdoc Brewingoperates a cozy tap room out of a Suite 100 just next to Marymoor Park in Redmond, Wash. The Sound Effect team went out to celebrate the 100th episode with some pints of the brewery's craft beers.

The Clinic

A methadone clinic helps recovering addicts out of a nondescript Suite 100 in Tacoma, Wash. KNKX reporter Paula Wissel shares the story of one former addict on the path to recovery.

Volcano Watchers

Just outside Mount St. Helens, the United States Geological Survey Cascades Volcano Observatory monitors volcanic activity around the globe from a Suite 100 address. KNKX environment reporter Bellamy Pailthorp went to the observatory to understand how volcanologists across the world communicate to respond to eruptions.

Take A Bow

Issaquah, Wash. is home to Hammond Ashley Violins, which makes, restores, and sells violins in a Suite 100. KNKX reporter Ed Ronco toured the shop and learned what it takes to make these incredibly delicate instruments.

Heart of Glass

Down in Pioneer Square, there is a Suite 100 that holds thousands of dollars worth of glass art. It’s the gallery for the world renowned Pilchuck Art School. Glass artist Lydia Boss works in the school’s gallery and explains what it takes to make it in this tough industry.

The Good Shepherd

The non-profit organic gardening organization Tilth calls a Suite 100 home in Seattle's Wallingford neighborhood. This office, however, is just one piece of a much larger building once known as the Home of the Good Shepherd, which took in "troubled" women from 1907 to 1971. One of the women who lived there in the early 1950s reflects on her time at the Good Shepherd.

Sound Effect is your weekly tour of ideas, inspired by the place we live. The show is hosted by KNKX's Jennifer Wing.
