NEA Jazz Master Hubert Laws In Concert

The renowned flutist Hubert Laws was featured in a special opening night concert at this year's Jazz Port Townsend Festival.  Designated a Jazz Master by the National Endowment for the Arts, Hubert Laws' career spans six decades and dozens of albums.  He was joined on stage at McCurdy Pavilion at Fort Worden by an all-star trio including Bill Cunliffe on piano, John Clayton on bass and Matt Wilson on drums.

Centrum's Jazz Port Townsend celebrated its 43rd year the last week of July beginning with a week-long jazz workshop with jazz professionals, culminating in concerts at Fort Worden on Friday night, Saturday matinee and evening performances.  There was also Jazz in the Clubs in downtown Port Townsend Thursday through Saturday.  Other artists who will also be featured in future Jazz Northwest shows include Justin Kauflin, Sean Jones, Tia Fuller, Wycliffe Gordon, Dee Daniels, Cedric Dent, and Niki Haris.

Jazz Northwest is recorded and produced by host Jim Wilke.  The program airs Sundays at 2 PM Pacific on 88.5, KNKX and knkx.org.  After broadcast, shows are available for streaming at jazznw.org
