Establishing a monthly residency at Tula's jazz club in Seattle on the 2nd Thursday of each month, we put the trio disORGANized to the test with a live studio session on a Monday afternoon. They passed with flying colors.

Spanning a good piece of Puget Sound, Seattle-based guitarist Cole Schuster teams up with Tacoma's Delvon Lamarr on Hammond organ, and Olympia drummer Alek Gayton for a classic organ trio sound that will remind listeners of 50s and 60s greats like Big John Patton, Grant Green, and early Jimmy Smith. It's the band's fantastic original compositions that really set them apart.

Formed this year, the group's monthly residency at Tula's always includes a special guest. Over the Summer they've worked in vibes player Jacques Willis and Alex Dugdale's saxophone and tap dancing, telling us that a fourth musician is always a welcome addition to this well-oiled machine.

Keeping a once-a-month gig gives consistency to not only the band, but audiences ready to make a monthly date at Tula's to see what they're up to on a monthly basis. It's also a practical move, as all three band members are awfully busy with other projects. With terrific compositions like the ones we heard live on 88.5, a live album would be a dream come true.

Until then, enjoy the magic we captured in the KNKX studios, and mark your calendar to catch 'em live in Seattle.

Abe grew up in Western Washington, a third generation Seattle/Tacoma kid. It was as a student at Pacific Lutheran University that Abe landed his first job at KNKX, editing and producing audio for news stories. It was a Christmas Day shift no one else wanted that gave Abe his first on-air experience which led to overnights, then Saturday afternoons, and started hosting Evening Jazz in 1998.
